Uterus with leiomyoma
Clinical story
57 years old female with chronic pelvic pain and a clinically diagnosed myoma
of the uterus. Laparoscopic removal of the uterus.
Comments
Section through part of a leiomyoma, with smooth muscle fiber bundles, partly
in a “criss-cross” pattern. Normal myometrium with less compact strands of muscle fibers is seen in the periphery. There is no atypia of the myocytes in the myoma.
Learning goals
To recognize benign leiomyomas as tumors and understand their symptomatology, morphology and treatment.
