Polycystic ovary
Clinical story
39 years old female, undergoing in vitro fertilization (IVF) treatment for
infertility. Ultrasonic examination showed bilateral polycystic ovaries. Wedge resection of both ovaries was performed and a section from the left ovary was taken for histological examination.
Comments
Ovarian wedge resection with multiple cortical cysts. The cysts are composed of granulosa cells. Also present in the ovarian cortex are multiple primordial
follicles, more mature follicles and atretic follicles. Corpora lutea or albicantes
are not seen.
