Testis with seminoma.

Clinical story

31 years old male with an enlarged left testicle. Grossly, the tumor tissue showed a homogenously white cut surface. The tunica albuginea appeared intact.

Virtual microscopy of the slide

Comments

The tumor tissue consists of dissociated atypical cells with one or more nucleoli. In the tumor, fibrous strands with lymphocytes are found.

Adjacent to the seminoma, atrophic tubuli with no spermatogenesis and atypical germ cells, consistent with in situ changes, are seen.

Learning goals

To recognize the malignant germ cell tumor of a seminoma type and understand the different routes of development in germ cell derived tumors in males.
