1. Apical 4 chambers view We will begin with an overview image of the heart, starting from the apex. The patient lies on their left side with their left arm under their head, to increase the intercostal space as much as possible. The probe, pointed in a lateral direction, is placed over the apex a few cm lateral to the ictus. Then we get what is called the 4 chamber view with the heart's 4 chambers. To the right in the image you can see the left ventricle at the top and the left atrium at the bottom. To the left in the image you can see the right ventricle and right atrium. Between the atriums and ventricles we can see the mitral valve and the tricuspid valve. From the 4 chamber view, you can study the function of the right and left ventricle. In this projection we can evaluate for infarction damage in the interventricular septum and the lateral wall of the left ventricle.
