7. High parasternal short axis view At parasternal acces, the probe is turned 90 degrees. In this short axis view, we see a cross-section of the tricuspid valve. With a little luck, we get the typical mercedes-star pattern. In this projection, we see the right ventricle in front of the aortic valve with the mitral valve to the left in the image and the pulmonary valve to the right in the image. We can also see the lung artery. This is a projection to evaluate the pulmonary valve. By using color Doppler, we see the blood streaming out of the right ventricle, through the pulmonary valve and in to the lung artery. In this view you can see a small red spot that appears to be a small pulmonary insufficience without any clinical significance.
