New nordic recommendations, 2004 (based on factorial method)

Lost in urine, skin, menstruation, semen:

  • 1.27 mg/d (men),
  • 1.0 mg/day (women)
    Loss through GI tract to faeces:
  • 1.4 mg/d (both sexes)

In the typical mixed nordic diet, availability estimated at ~40%.Requirement of

  • 6.4 mg/d (men),
  • 5.7 mg/d (women).

Interindividual variation in requirements is assumed to be 15%.

Recommendations virtually unchanged, at

  • 7.4 mg/day for women.
