WHO initiatives
1. Vitamin A capsules
All children with xerophthalmia, measles, PEM, diarrhea and respiratory infections should have 60 mg of vitamin A on two consecutive days. This should be repeated after four weeks. Children between six months and six years should receive 60 mg of vitamin A every 6 months.
2. Education
Increased understanding of vitamin A deficiency, identification of vitamin A rich food items and increased consumption of vitamin A rich foods.
3. Farming
Stimulation of growing fruits and vegetables rich in vitamin A.
4. Enrichment of foods
Enriching regular food items commonly used in the area.
